The solution has been found.
To clarify though, he was confusing the overdrive with the dipper. Once he
got that straight he noted that the dippers did come on.
Starting under the dash he noticed that the blue wire on the switch showed
heat damage due to corrosion. He deduced that both lights should be on, (as
power was on to the circuit all the time) and checked the driver's headlamp.
It was burned out.
Using your excellent prior e-mail he found the source of the problem was
where the brown wire passes through the sub harness plug to the main wiring
harness. Due to corrosion it had burned out.
He bypassed the burnt out section, and the lights now behave as they should.
I've ordered the harness plugs for him so he can effect a proper repair.
