Happy New Year~
On Jan. 3rd, 2002 as I pulled into our neighborhood Post Office, I couldn't
help but notice an absolutely stunning Bronze Yellow 1972 MGB roadster. It
had rained earlier that day and the cars chrome wire wheels seemed to sparkle
in the sunlight. I was able to catch up with the cars owner just as he was
about to leave. Offering up the proper salutations and words of praise
regarding this remarkable incredibly well kept and immaculately maintained
1972 MGB. "I've never seen any 1972 MGB that has looked this good, except in
a Museum or Car Show!" With that I offered up one of our British Car Club
cards. They're a great way to break the ice once you've met somebody with a
LBC or Sports Car that I'd like to see join The Central Coast British Car
Club (our local club). On the cards front it has my name and phone number. If
someone needs a ride to the next monthly club meeting. Usually the 1st
Tuesday of each month, except for January, because that was New Year's Day.
But I hope the owner of this fantastic 1972 MGB roadster will be able to come
to our next club meeting. Especially after he said, "Hey look at my cars
engine..." There sat just about the cleanest looking engine that I've ever
seen in any car! The air chambers on the twin SU carburetors were polished to
a near chrome like finish, twin K&N air filters gave it just the "right" look
and each wire and hose looked like it was in its proper place. The 4 plug
wires left the distributor at just the right curve each one perfectly in line
with the other. The clamps on the radiator hoses were straight and evenly
placed. It really looked like it was wonderfully cared for. Driven with a
certain sense of pride in ownership sadly missing in today's completely
covered up, enshrouded computer controlled nightmares. No, this car said "I'm
a MGB and proud of it!" It was as if I had been transported back to the day
my new friend had bought his brand new roadster. For he's been the cars only
owner-since 1972. And he says he'll never part with it...I wouldn't either!
Albert Escalante, 1978 MGB
