Shot in the dark here. My MG midget started running on two - I drove all the
way back from Wales and pulled the head off before realising that the needle
in the rear SU had loosened and was stuck in the jet. And yes, I had lifted
the carb pistons in Wales...and all I could see was the brass shaft of the
needle down in the depths of the carb throat. Think about it.
