In my case, I stripped the front suspension completely and renewed everything that was worn. I was able to revive the dampers with no dead spots using fresh 20W oil. However there is still a "clonk" on the right side whenever I go over a speed bump and I was able to trace it to the inner wishbone pivot whose ends are worn thin enough to allow some clearance between them and the steel inserts on the V8 bushes fitted to the arms.
