Calculate the length of the path from the mouth of
the carb to the back of the inlet valve.  That is the
tuned length of the inlet 'pipe.'  Think pipe organ.
The 'pipe' will resonate at the frequency defined
by the length of the pipe and the velocity of sound
in air, creating constructive and destructive interference
within the charge.  (BTW, the same thing happens with
your exhaust.)  Adding trumpets to the carbs lengthens
the 'pipe' and lowers the resonate frequency.  The
goal is to 'tune' the length of the 'pipe' to give you
maximum constructive interference (increased pressure
at the valve end) at the rpm where you need maximum
torque.
