This is probably not much help:
The body number should be on a metal plate welded next to the
right hand bonnet hinge. It will begine with a B. 1500 cars do
not have the B.

G= MG
H= 1400to 1999 cc
N= roadster
L= Left Hand Drive
2= Mark 2
MGA 1600 MK II engines were 16GC/U/H or 16GC/U/L from 101 to 8851
with H= high compression with L= low compression. I would think
all USA cars to be high compression.
The first MKII was 100352 produced in March of 1961.
