About a year ago, I tried finding more information on the first
owner of my twin cam and the cars racing/rallying history. At
that time, I didn't find much. As we have more members, perhaps
someone can help me.
Martha Zietlow bought yd3/589 new from the Kumph Motor Car Co. of
Denver, CO. in 1961. She worked for the Denver & Rio Grande
Railroad. She may have been the race chair for the first
Steamboat races in 1955. Pete Hylton searched the SCCA records
and was unable to find a retired driver file or any "record of
her ever having scored any SCCA Nation Racing Points." I believe
she may have owned a TD before the twin cam.
I am looking for any photographs or any record of her activities.
I have notes to the effect that she holed a piston because "she
didn't change from the warm up plugs to the race ones." The
engine was overbored and I have been told that the new ones were
coated on top (Ceramic?). Those pistons were discarded before I
got the car so I don't know exactly what was done. The car once
had some sort of roll cage/hoop, stop watch clips on the dash
were the radio fits, Brooklands screen, and a RayTdot mirror.
Any help of leads would be greatly appreciated. Even contact
info of someone from the regeon who might have been active in the
early 60's would help.
