A local small used car dealer/body shop has just picked up a TD as part of
an estate. They have no interest in the car and they had called my
mechanic/restorer about looking at it/buying it. He got the distinct
impression that this shop wanted to just get it out of the bay. He and I
figured that this car must be in poor shape and on a whim I went to look at
it half intrigued that this car was sitting in a body shop 3 miles from my
house in a town of 2000 with two british cars (both ours). The car was in
great shape, stored inside, not on the road since '91. Motor did turn,
interior a little dry but just needs some hide food. The dash is perfect,
It does have a black canvas tonneau, I did not see a top or frame for one.
No rust, no dents, some cracking to the paint in a few places. A quick peek
of the engine bay shows an apparantly intact and original engine. The tool
roll appears intact with enough other odd wrenches tossed into figure the
owner did know a thing or two about the car and had taken care of it. The
certainly needs all fluids changed out (syrupy gas, etc) and I do know how
well the engine works but I am wondering what might be considered a fair
price for this car. The idea being if he asks a very low ball figure it
might be worth doing just to turn it around in the Spring. The owner of the
shop was not in so the people there did not know any specifics on the car.
I am going to see him tomorrow under the idea of helping him to sell it
(connect him with someone looking for a car) I have done this before just
for LBC goodwill but I have also known a steal when i see one and just
wanted to be prepared.
Any help? URLs for information?
