I assume that the ASA would be something like the 'Advertising Standards
Association' or whatever - and I also assume that America has one of
these, too (or should have one).
These are the people you complain to if you feel that an advert. is
false, misleading, sexist, racist, tr**mphist or in some other poor
taste, defamatory or whatever, dangerous etc. In Australia you can go
to a 'consumer affairs' type government body or to a advertising
industry 'self-regulaatory' type body.
Over-zealousness comes from the power of certain pressure groups which
may, for example, say that the advertisment encourages reckless
behaviour ("this car can beat any other car off at the lights").
In this case it seems someone made a stupid ruling based on a stupid complaint.
