You may have heard me whine recently that our motorsport governing body,
CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport ltd) here in Australia had
announced a ban on the use of AVGAS (100+ Octane) from the start of
2002. This was stated as being for 'environmental' reasons, especially
as the fuel has a very high lead content and we are meant to be phasing
out ALL leaded fuels of all forms now.
With the compression up quite a bit my car pinks like anything under
load on fuel with less than 100+ octane. I was going to have to look at
all sorts of measures, or lowering the compression, to get my car on the
track without my favourite fuel next year. They were also cracking down
on leaded/octane boosters!
Well, it looks like I wasn't the only one complaining. The following is
the media release from CAMS:
CAMS STATEMENT
CAMS EXTENDS APPROVAL OF SPECIALISED RACING FUEL FOR SANCTIONED CATEGORIES
The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport Ltd, CAMS, today announced that
specialised racing fuel may continue to be used until further notice by
vehicles competing in CAMS-sanctioned events, where permitted under state
legislation.
This decision follows a 22 August determination by Senator Hill concerning
the continued use of specialised racing fuel in motor sport events held
under the auspices of CAMS.
In making this resolution, CAMS also took into account the representations
and recommendations of many of its members and technical advisors.
The term "specialised racing fuel" in this context includes fuels marketed
as "Racing 100" that are derived from Aviation-grade gasoline.
