Well, I finally completed my seat reupholstering project on the '65 B!
They came out pretty decent, for my first effort... And it only took me 5
months! Total work time on the first seat was probably 4 hours, on the
second probably an hour and a half total... Couple of lessons learned:
1) Do the DRIVER'S seat first, not the passengers... The driver's has
the benefit of experience and came out better, but will be covered
by my butt most of the time!
2) I bought the seat foams from The Proper MG and the covers from Moss
(via Ed Kaler). Next time I would probably source both from the same
vendor, as I had a couple of minor fit problems that may (or may not)
be the result of this....
3) The plastic bag trick for the seatback cover is a great idea, but
once the cover was on I ripped out the bag so I could glue the
seatback cover to the foam. Otherwise, the cover would not lay flat
and conform to the contours of the foam without glue.
4) I used the 3M spray adhesive; I would use a brush-on in the future.
Less mess and air pollution!
I have before/during/after pics that I'll be putting on my website once I
get my film back! No digital camera yet :(
Next project is the clean up my "new" shortblock, pull the old engine and
trans and transfer the old cylinder head to the new engine and start to
strip the body down in preparation for a spring 2002 session with a body
shop...
