I got my rod bearings out last night. They were trashed but the crank
was fine. I didn't get the 3 middle main bearings out. I was reminded
of how important it is to chock your rear wheels when the front of the
car is up on jackstands. Damn lucky too. The car rolled far enough
back as the jackstands tipped that the crossmember and engine cleared
me completely. It's funny how you can get away with not exactly
following all the safety rules for years, then all of a sudden you get
a wake-up call.
When I pulled the plugs so that I could turn the crank I was greeted
by an unpleasant sight:

You will see pictures of all sorts of nasty buildup on the plugs. I
had been having some problems with my head gasket until I retorqued
the head for a third time (initial, 200 miles, x00 miles) after
replacing it, so it's possible that this buildup was from that.
Does this look like the effect of coolant getting into the cylinders?
