Will,
MGY, introduced in 1947, was the saloon on whose platform the MG TD was
built. It introduced independent front suspension to the production cars
and had, for its time, a very rigid chassis. The cars were nicely fitted
and elegant, even including a self-jacking system. Engine was the XPAG
unit used by the TD, but with a single carb and (even) milder camshaft.
Since the TD had only two seats, the Y Tourer was developed from the Y
saloon to offer four seats. It was neither a hot performer or seller.
Nevertheless, it's an example of the four-passenger sporting car that was
offered at the time by Singer and Morgan, among others. Those who have
the few remaining Y Tourers cherish them.
