Hans:  If you have the VIN number, you might  be able to trace it through 
"carfacts" or "carfax"   Check with a used car dealer or chase around on the 
www.  I understand this outfit keeps title and registration info on all cars 
in USA.  Don't know how far back they go though!  Good luck....mel
