Sounds you need to check the ignition timing. Also check valve settings.
If this happens to often, damage will be on the valve and/or guides....

Cheers,

Hans

Subject: Question about flames from the exhaust?

My 72 midget on Sunday decided to give us a light show out the exhaust pipe,
we are talking flames! Drove over the mountain and when you take your foot
off the gas pedal powda powda pa! flames, but as soon as you push the pedal
it stops. So what would cause this? My son thinks it was having an asthma
attack! A couple of weeks ago after a long drive coming to a stop sign the
engine died, and after about 10 minutes finally started again and then drove
home fine. Any suggestion?

Thanks

Lisa Ann
