This, as others have said, it probably just a nasty connector. However,
a few years ago, a lamp manufacturer made a string of lights that
had a secondary filiment that glowed when the main lamp blew. That
way you didn't look like a cyclops when a lamp blew. Haven't seen
those lamps for years but you MIGHT have one. I'd say, check the
lamp connector and/or switch it with another lamp -- as a test
