well, your examples are OK but limited. I bought a 280Z one time.
Got it cheap because it ran so rich it fouled the plugs withon 100
miles. It had a flapper-valve air meter that controlled the length of
the electronic pulse to the injectors. Then there was a "cold start"
injector that acted like a choke. To measure all these pulses, you had
to have an oscilloscope. Also, the thing had to start & run so that the
electronic computer was triggered by the ignition master-pulse. With me
so far? Then, thre were various sensors for altitude, humidity, CO,
etc., etc., which affected the injector computer.

So: I bought a factory manual repro, had a Radio Amateur friend who
owned a 'scope I could use, applied 30 years experience as an
electronics tech and mechanic and got the thing running right. Not your
backyard project.

Moral: there are some modern cars that the average backyard mechanic
can't cope with on modern cars, depending on the severity of the
problem.

  Cheers,

  CR
