We (myself, who works with digital image technology, and a colleague who is
an expert on digital imaging and compression techniques for a major imaging
corporation) have been looking at the shot of the VIN number in PhotoShop,
as the last digit looks weird. It was inconclusive if the image had been
tampered with - at least no obvious overt problems - but it had some
irregularities, but not enough to say for sure. Generally the last digit
does not look valid, whether a tampering pre-photo or post-photo, it's hard
to tell.
However, I would say that regardless of whether this car meets reserve, the
people at eBay should be notified, in case there is another such car by
this person at some point in the future.
