Subject: Waxing the MG

This question may sound elementary, but since this has been my first
summer/weekend car, I don't quite have an answer, so I thought I'd ask the
list. This will be my third summer with my MG, and I have never waxed her.
Granted, when I wash her, I still get plenty of water beads.

My question is, and this applies only to those who have their MG's as
driver's, not trailer queens, how often do you wax your car? My car has
enamel paint, do I need a special wax for that? Should I just leave well
enough alone? My boot was repainted last spring, should that also be a
consideration?

It depends if you garage your MG or not. Mine is garaged all year long, and
spends approximately 5 months in winter storage. I usually wax it 1/2 way
thru the driving season, and again towards the end of the season. I wash the
car every couple of weeks and go over it with one of those "Magic Car
Dusters" in between washings. I also wax after returning from a particularly
long trip when I give the car a thorough cleaning anyway. (although I do
kind of like the "road worn" look for a few days)) If your MG spends a lot
of time in outdoor storage I would wax more frequently. Sun and acid rain
can do a number on paint.

Stay away from those "infomercial" waxes, go with a good quality wax. I
used Mothers for years, I now use 3M products exclusively on my vehicles,
specifically the 3M Show Car Paste Wax, and the 3M Gloss Enhancer (sort of a
quick detailer) between wax jobs. Griots Garage sells fine quality stuff as
well, but can be a bit pricey. My car may sound like a garage queen but it
isn't, It gets driven every chance I get, but I do take pride in my MG and
the way it looks, and I figure that by taking care of the body and paint now
it will pay off in the long run. Hope this helps
