I was traveling and missed the start of this, and can only offer this experience. I, too, had a reluctant plug that I chiseled, etc., and it wouldn't even start to move. But I was going to replace the gasket anyway, so I removed the entire cover, put it in my bench vise and the darn plug came right out. It just wanted some attention, that's all.
