Hello All:
Thanks to Skye and everyone for all the ideas for getting a smooth ride from
my '69 MGBGT with wire wheels. My car had the shakes so bad you could hardly
see out of the rear view mirror at freeway speeds. Thanks also to Stuart for
the tip to go see Cory at Fosters Wheel Service in Seattle. This guy really
knows wire wheels. He took off each tire and checked balance on a bubble
balance, removed the old weights and rebalanced. None of them were even
close to being in balance. They each had between 5 to 8 ounces of lead (on
both sides). After balancing they had an average of 2 ounces of lead on only
one side.

After balancing I took them out to I-5 to "open 'er up" and holy sh*t, for
the first time in two years (since I bought the car), it was glass smooth up
to 80!. So I could not help myself. I tried 90 mph and still smooth.!! I am
gonna have to clean my wing mirror now!

So the moral is this. If your wire wheels were balanced on a computer, and
your car is not smooth at speed, take them to someone (Cory if your in the
NW of the US), and get them done right (before you go pricing new alloy
wheels, right Tim?).

(usual disclaimers apply)

I hope it is okay with Kai that I only spent 30 bucks getting a smooth ride.
I promise I will go back to Cory when it is time for new rubber!!

Kind regards,

Tim Economu
