While this is true, anyone adding performance components to their motor (any
motor) should be intelligent enough to make sure the rest of their motor is
up to the task. There is no sense adding a supercharger, if your rings are
going to allow most of the mixture to get blown into the crankcase!!!
If your motor has been serviced well over the years, it has nice leak down
numbers (assuming you've just adj'd your valves) and you have no impending
failures (bearing knocks, etc); then there would be nothing wrong with
adding a supercharger.
The majority of MGB owners are NEVER going to run their cars up to 8000RPM.
And with the additional power any supercharger is going to provide, you
won't need to get anywhere close to that.
Anyone who wants a mild increase in performance, for about half the price of
Han's kit... can go for a rebuilt, complete Judson supercharger kit from
George Folchi. They go for about $1750 for the MGA/MGB. Nice period
accessory, major coolness points... and a noticible increase in performance.
