The MGOC, where I got mine from in a fit of madness don't have them and have
never heard of the need for them (so they say), but mine has started
'wittering' just before the pedal hits the pressure of the cover-plate
springs.  I would never fit one again and always counsel against them, but
wouldn't the slightest end-float on the crank shunt it out of the way?  And
doesn't the fact that mine only starts to make its noise when it does and
not all the time tend to confirm it?  Just a couple of thoughts.
