I have a question for those of you MGB Mark 1 users concerning the
solenoid. The one feature I really liked about the 65B I had in college was
that cool push button solenoid. I could engage the starter from under the
hood with this button - great when I am working on the car. My 67 BGT also
has this push button solenoid.
My son's 65B does not have the button - the solenoid is there but it has a
solid plastic face where the button should be. One of the guys parting out
a Mark 1 MGB that has provided me with a number of parts said all his cars
have that same solid face and no button. He thinks this wasn't a normal
stock item or maybe they used the good push button solenoids when they ran
out of the cheap ones.
Now to make it more confusing (maybe) - Moss shows a solenoid 546-020 which
looks like it is the right one with push button for years 62-65 and another
solenoid 546-150 (probably the plastic faced one) for years 66-67 at almost
half the cost.
Is Moss right on the years or is it just whatever part they slapped in the
car? Is my 67BGT wrong? Or is it the 65B (which is actually a late 64
model)? Anyone have a used push button one they might want to part with?
