Edwin,
I agree with Neil ML is the best wheel out there and they also do offer the
original factory style 17" wheel for the MGA. It is a beauiful work of art
IMO and I have one on my MGA. The entire line of ML wheels are are very well
made in a small shop in the UK. I have visited them several times and will
be there again next month. One of the time I was there I took several
pictures on the making of the wheels which you can see on my website on the
Moto-Lita page. Take a look it might give you some insight on why they are
the best.
The factory style wood wheel for the MGA does NOT require a special hub/boss
for it to fit the column, but any of the other wheels do require one. There
are many knockoff wheels and hubs out there so be careful what you buy. Moss
carries the genuine ML wheel but not the hub (they use a French knockoff)
All ML wheels when you buy the boss come with a MG logo centerpiece. The
factory wood wheel does not come with a centerpiece as it will accept the
standard MG centerpiece that you presently have on your bakelite wheel. I
have an online catalog of pretty much all their wheels/hubs on my site.
Best regards,

Edwin,
IMO Motolita make the best wheels by far. They are handmade and you can get
them with Woodrims, flat spokes, dished spokes, leatherbound, plastic badged
horn pushes, billet alloy badged small & large pushes, billet boss kits etc.
They are not cheap however..
For the MGA I think you may be able to even source a copy of the original
woodrim ST wheel. If I was getting a wheel for my A, I would go for a 15"
woodrim motolita with dished spokes to increase the clearance between wheel
and gearstick. If you search for Motolita you will find a link to a US
dealer. I ordered mine direct from Motolita in the UK on +44 1264 772 811
because I'm in Ireland and also the wheel I choose is special order only.
Perhaps they can send you a catalog.
I will be getting my Leatherbound Mk10 Dished wheel for the V8 in a few
days, can hardly wait! This is my second Motolita and they are always works
of art! :)
Cheers,
