I finally got started on my son's 79 MGB over the weekend. The car was
de-smogged by a previous owner, now I have to figure out what all the extra
wires and hoses are. I'm not worried about re-smogging the engine, but I
want to be sure everything that needs to be sealed is. Looking over the car
I found that the fuel cut-off valve has been bypassed. The fuel line goes
straight from the filter to the carb. The Haynes and Bently don't really go
into much detail about the cut-off valve and I was wondering if anyone could
explain it's operation. Obviously it is to cut off fuel flow in the event
of an accident, but it's not obvious how it works. This is going to be my
son's car while he is at college so I want it to be as safe as possible.
Were these valves a big problem or are they pretty straight forward?
TIA
