I agree they deserve attention, George.
That's precisely what I mean by keeping them well greased and inspected
occasionally.
I carefully disassemble and cIean them every 10,000 to 12,000 mi. I inspect
them carefully for fretting corrosion (the rust colored deposits that are the
first signs of bearing failure) and excessive wear. If they're OK, I remove
the old grease from the spindle and hub and repack the bearings, then I
reassemble them.
I've had my MG for 21 years and only replaced the bearings
once......BUT.......YMMV
