Erich: We have among others, a 71 MGB GT which is very reliable as a semi
regular driver and a 91 Jeep Cherokee with the I-6 4.0 engine which 18 year
old sone now drives. He experienced the same problem you described. First
though it was in fuel system. We had an electronic anaysis done which showed
broken down spark plug wire, maybe more than one, I don't remember. Those
wires had well over 60K miles since changing. A throuough tuneup and new
plug wires solved the problem.
The way the Jeep and most other new cars are mechanically designed, the only
way I think to learn what is wrong is with one of those expensive hand held
computer analysis units that plug into the car's electronic system. Good
repair shops and dealer have them and charge at least $30 around here for an
analysis.
Good luck....mel
