left our local club picnic yesterday and while accelerating from a stop light
a big whish noise came from the engine compartment. Sounded like a big
exhaust leak. I pulled over and opened the hood and the "check valve"
between the smog pump and the air injection manifold blew apart. It looks
like this is just a press in fitting as there are no threads on either side.
What happened, why did the valve blow instead of the dry rotted, brittle
rubber hoses. Are the valve and the related rubber hoses under a lot of
pressure build up? If I replace the valve can I just get rubber hose from a
local auto supply house, or do I need to find heavy duty hoses. Moss does not
show the hoses being available.
Question two.
I've noticed during letting the clutch out from downshifting that I get alot
of shutter feeling in the seat of my pants. Feels like it is coming from the
rear of the car even though the shifter really shakes at the same time. I
crawled under the car and nothing in the suspension seem loose, I do not
think the u-joints are gone as the driveshaft doesn't turn much by hand. How
would I tell if the engine / trans mounts are broken and allowing things to
move too much. Or am I thinking wrong.
the car by the way is a 78 MGB with a fully smogged motor.
Any help is appreciated.
