Both lights should go on. Appears the gearbox supplies a bit less voltage
when the box really is in reverse. Though both lights should recieve enough
voltage.
Better to check:
ground cluster in the back of the car.
ground circuit of the specific lamp.
Bullet connectors in the circuit from the gearbox to the lamps - lots of
dirt contaminate there and cause bad contacts. When possible have the bullet
black connector receptacles replaced with new ones and have the bullets
checked for loose solder connections.
Cheers,
Hans

Subject: 1979 MGB Back up lights
I've come up with another stumper on my 79 B. When I have the shift lever
in neutral and push it all the way to the left (between 1st and 2nd) both
back up lights come on. I was told when I shift from 1st to 2nd they also
come on momentarily as I go through neutral here. When I put the shift into
reverse gear only one back up light comes on.
I did have the engine out last winter - does anyone know what I may have
mixed up to cause this?????
Thanks
Denny
