Hello Folks,
Thanks for everyone's help in the continuing saga of the B that wouldn't
start.
In case ya'll have forgotten, I was faced with a car that would turn over
as long as the key was in the start position, but as soon as it popped
back into the run position the car would cut out. Not having tons of time
on my hands and not having tackled many electrical problems, I did the
simplest thing and replaced the ignition relay. Of course, this didn't
solve my problem. However, in the course of installation I discovered
that according to the position in which the relay was hanging (I hadn't
attached it back to the side of the fender), the car would start. I got
the advice that it seemed as though I had an intermittent connection.
Sure enough, as I traced the wiring I came across a 3M quick connect
where a WN wire had been tapped into the W wire going to the relay. I
checked the voltage of the W wire where it connected to the relay and got
a reading between 8.5V-11.5V, or there a bouts. I removed the horrendous
quick connect (I HATE these things) and used some spade connectors I
ordered from British Wiring to connect the W wire back together. I hooked
the WN wire back at the fuse box. One of the DPO's (I don't think the
fellow I bought it from did this, I think it was the guy he bought the
car from) had cut the connection at the fuse box and tapped into the W
wire, as I mentioned above. Finally, this evening, I turned the key
and.....the B-east awoke and roared to life!! Just a little more work and
I will be on the road again!
