I am a recent MG owner, I purchased a '69B with a fabulously preserved BRG
body, original high back leather seats and wire wheels about two months ago.
Mechanically not so good though. So far I have completely replaced the
exhaust system. replaced almost the entire brake system (only the master
cylinder remains) and am at this moment putting a replacement engine in
(from another 69B that was wrecked in an accident)
The transmission is great.
The front right wing has a badly patched section from a fender bender.
The splines on the hubs and wheels are a little worn.
The paint job is badly faded and chipped.
Bumpers need to be re-chromed.
I think the next thing I am going to undertake it to get paint done.
The question I have is about a 'Bare Metal Respray'. I have seent the term
tossed around but am not sure exactly what it means. Is it when the body is
stripped down, all the paint removed, and then fresh anti corrosion coatings
then paint are applied?
If so, does the body need to be dis-mantled for this? Is it recommended to
keep a good body good?
What I do withthe wing kind of depends on this too, because if dimantling is
required, I may as well replace the wing while it is in parts. If it dosen't
then I should probably just have the bad patch cut out and a better patch
put in...
Looking for some advice on the value of the respray and if I should go this
route...
