Samuel,
My 72 B has the dip stick behind the console under the dash and covered by a
flap on the carpet on the transmission tunnel. Lift the flap and pull the
rubber plug to expose the dip stick. It is a bit difficult to see and
reach. I usually reach it from the passenger side, lift the flap and pull
the plug out then grab the dip stick to pull it out. It is even more
difficult to pour oil in when needed. I use a long flexible automatic
transmission funnel to pour oil in the transmission. Be sure to use the
same oil that you use in the engine.
I'm pretty sure that your 71 is the same as my 72.
