Dear list-members:
As some of you remember, I sent my MG for a rolling road tuning. I have
a Weber carb, and I have much to high compression,
The pinking is now almost gone. I have some pinking under 2500 RPM with full
throttle.
My weber had jets that Moss UK thought was OK for my car, that setup was
hopeless
I now have 90BHP on the rear wheels, much quicker than it used to be, and,
(this may be
to early to know for sure), lower fuel consumption. I was advised to try
some colder spark
plugs by the guy who tested my car, he did not have them at the moment, to
solve the
remaining pinking, but I may decide to solve the high compression 'problem',
by:
4) Install a 3.5/4.2 liter V8
3) Install a stage 2( stage 4,5,6 ??), 2.1 liter B engine
2) A new cylinder head ( stage 2 ?)
Seriously:
1B) Increase the volume in the combustion chambre ( + some other work
1A) Install a thicker extra ( copper?) head gasket.
1A & 1B:
Too much is taken from the cylinder head, so does anybody have some
measurements
of how 'high' ( thick?)a sylinder head should be? There are ways to
calculate the exact
volume in the (cylinder minus piston)+ cylinder head, so I exactly know how
much that
has been removed. The pistons are not original, to compensate some for the
high
compression.
I may go for better rather than perfect compression.
The best would be have some head-work done, but If I get someone to make a
special
copper head gasket should I use
--'normal head-gasket' special-copper-gasket, then another head-gasket, --
or will a thick copper gasket alone be soft enough ? Maybe with some
'gasket-on-box'
