I think this approach has promise. My 67 Barracuda fastback has no rear 
shelf, just a flat carpeted floor behind the rear seat. Sveral years ago 
I found some Jensen speakers that came in wedge-shaped enclosures. Each 
one has a 6x9 and a 3" tweeter. I would think a car stereo specialist 
would have a lot of external speakers to choose from. The only problem 
would be finding ones that weren't scaled for 400watts of bass. <g>
