G'day all,
does anyone out there have a, (useable), distributor for a 1974 MGB that
they would be willing to sell?
trip report: I drove the car up to the Thunder Bay VSCC 2000 show over the
weekend. It was the longest trip we had made in the car so far. The night
before we left, the car was behaving badly and only running on a couple of
cylinders. I took things apart and put them back together again and all was
well. The next morning we left for Thunder Bay, the car ran fine all the way
(about 360 miles). It also ran fine while we were there, in spite of
41degree temps and pouring rain. On the way back it was running perfectly
until about 20 miles out of Duluth when I lost half the engine. It seemed to
be only running on a couple of cylinders. We manged to make it into Duluth
where some friends who were with us helped exchange various ignition parts.
Nothing seemed to help, even replacing the distributor with Crane ignition
with one with mechanical points. I got a new set of plugs and replaced all
the original parts and low and behold it ran fine. I suppose that I had a
couple of dodgy plugs, (they were brand new NGKs). Anyway it ran fine all
the way back to Minneapolis. The moral of the story is always travel in
groups and carry lots of spare parts :-)
