Thanks Neil, and pardon me posting this back to the list but rather than
send duplicate responses ... :-) Yeah, as I have mentioned to Bob,
after my post to the list (and another drive of the car) I came to a few
possible conclusions.
Firstly the 'original coil' (it certainly looked like it could be 30
years old) was probably not working at peak efficiency anyway and even a
replacement 'standard' coil would have made a noticeable difference in
power
Secondly, if the gap was too large (.035 -> .040) then the 'standard'
coil would have been working hard to provide a proper spark.
Thirdly, if both of the above were true (and this is not unlikely) then
the replacement of the old coil with a new sports coil would have really
provided a very noticeable performance increase (over crappy
performance).
And I just thought my 'B was meant to be that underpowered :-)
Hell and here I was gloating about my track times in that car (even
though I noted that the car felt sluggish last outing)... I might REALLY
impress myself next time out on July 2nd. But then again, I might also
spend a decent amount of time throwing up dust off the track too :-)
Seeing as we are now really into Winter here it might not be dust I
throw up but mud... especially as I have NEVER really raced on a wet
track before.
Well there you go... my theories on the improved performance.
I am just glad I did it ( and with a Lucas Sports Coil via eBay, too)!
