It's a very easy job. I just did this recently with a heavy duty bicycle
cable from the Schwinn store.
You'll need a flashlight (or a drop light) to see (on both sides of the
firewall), a crescent wrench for the linkage where it attaches to the carb
linkage should do fine, and pliers with a wire cutter.
Just thread it through the firewall and the plastic tubing, hook the end to
the pedal, draw it tight so the pedal is correct, then tighten the hex-head
screw at the linkage connection, and cut off the excess cable.
