Now that I am consistantly able to post to the list, I will go back to the
question I had when this all started. As some of you may remember, my
roller TO bearing is mostly dead in my roadster. While I am in there I am
doing the whole clutch plus the rear main, etc. My question is, how
necessary is the heavy duty clutch. I drive fast, but I don't dump the
clutch. A lot of accelerating and decelerating (fast) similar to
autocross. I do autocross sometimes, but not enough to warrant anything
special for it. My engine is stock but may get a 3/4 race cam and related
gear later, but that will be post V8BGT completion. I have been really
pleased with my clutch's performance in the 5 years the car has been a
daily driver, and ultimately it was the TO bearing that my dad and I put
in when I was 7 (I'm 21 now, if you've forgotten) that died. So waddaya
think? Are the HD clutch parts worth 2x the cost? Without having seen
the condition of the disk yet I can't say if it was about to die, but if I
do use HD parts, will they last more miles for the same type of driving,
or are they just more resistant to dumping the clutch and bigger horse
power engines?
