Sound deadening

Having now driven the 74 that I own for the moment I amazed how much
quieter the 74 is over my 67. I can hear the beautiful exhaust note of
the 74. In my 67 I can hear gears and valves and transmission and
overdrive and clatter and road rumble and..........What are some good
tips for this? I do not really want to spend the $89 for the sound mats
from Moss (Sorry Kelvin, but just finished a major rebuild).
