Tony,
Jack up the car, remove the wheel and look at the shock. If it's
leaking, it will be wet and have dirt on it. Clean off the area around
the filler, remove the plug and fill it. That will give you and idea of
what the overflowing fluid looks like, and will also confirm whether it
is leaking. The shock absorber is a sort of hydraulic pump, thus it is
far more likely to leak when the car is moving up and down on the road
than when stationary in the garage. I would expect to find spots on the
floor under the damper rather than a pool of oil.
