I've seen ads for an Optima battery. It sounded great (it could sit on the
shelf for two years and still start your car, lasts 3-4 times as long as a
standard battery, etc.) but expensive.  I forget where I saw the ads (Moss,
maybe), but a couple of places sell them (LBCarCo's web page lists them at
$174.35, and I'm sure there are others).

Is there a maintenance free battery that will fit a '71 MGB? I saw the 
Champion Vortex at the local auto parts store. Unfortunately it is a little 
too big for the B (also a bit pricey, but nothing's too good for an MG). My 
current battery is the regular kind and fits in the plastic liner that the 
catalogs sell. It came with the car that I've owned for 5 years, and it 
looked old when I bought the car. I want to replace it before it goes bad 
which, with my luck, would be far from home.
