Took the suspect alternator from my '71 B to the local AutoZone (thanks Bud)
for a bench test, and as I thought, only putting out ~7 V. They had a
rebuilt alternator w/ a lifetime warranty for $65, which was a pretty good
deal. Now here's the question. I was under the impression from Moss
catalogs, etc, that '69-'71 alternators used a 5 pin plug, but since they
are no longer available, a 3 pin plug model should be used (model used on
'72-'74 MGB's) w/ a plug converter. My '71 apparently was already converted,
since it has a 3 pin plug and had a 3 pin alternator (a rebuilt unit, BTW).
When I ordered my alternator from AutoZone today, I ordered it for a '73
MGB. Was my reasoning correct here, or did I just order the wrong
alternator? TIA.
