To all that have followed my rather tortured last few months trying to track
down a frustrating problem where my '76 B would conk out on the freeway,
success at last!

After having tried a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and many other suggested
fixes, I pulled the carb off to check the float level one more time. Then I
remembered that this started when I replaced the needle valve in the carb
during a rebuild, so I thought I would try going back to the old one.

When I unscrewed it I spotted something inside...a little #$%@@^ piece of
rubber (hose?) inside the chamber!!! Also, the old needle valve had a
screen on it, whereas the new one didn't. So, when I would go a sustained
speed, the chunk would get sucked into the opening and cause me to lose
power, then when I pulled over, the chunk would float off the opening,
allowing me to continue on my way for a while.

I ran it today, and for the first time in a long time I was able to go 60
miles without having to pull off to the side of the road!!! Driving is fun
again...just in time for top-down driving!!
