Thanks, Dan.
If your car originally came into the northeastern part of the USA, it
almost certainly came in through an outfit known as J. S. Inskip Inc..
Inskip were the principal importers in the northeast, and an MG legend
in the region over many, many years. I believe they fed cars to all of
the dealers mentioned in my earlier post, and to many tens of others as
well.
There is mention of Inskip here (follow links):
http://www.el-dorado.ca.us/~ccouper/mgtd/mgtd_variants.htm
But to learn the name of the particular local dealer who sold your MG,
short of querying the original owner, I do not know a way.
I would like to know this about my own cars.

Bruce, I was recently looking at pix of my 76 MGB from right after I
purchased it in April 88 - it had a sticker on the back saying 'Natale',
which I believe is still a dealership in the Albany, NY area -
Lincoln-Mercury, perhaps... There is additional writing below the word
Natale but I cannot make it out, unfortunately... I am the third owner,
so I am assuming that this was the original sticker (versus a used-car
dealers) since the PO told me it had never been repainted.
Along those same lines, I recently obtained the BMIHT certificate for my
car, and was somewhat disappointed. I guess I thought it would indicate
the dealership that ordered my car; it simply says 'USA' next to dealer.
