Larry,
  Sounds to me as though the brigand recognised a very desirable classic,
and admired it so much that he thought he would enjoy it even more than
the Jay did.  This car is not likely to be parted out; it was probably
stolen with the though that it would be someone's cherished car just as
it was (will be again, eventually) for Jay.
