Howdy. I bought a car and engine seperately (with the Weber DGV conversion
already on it), and before I even got the engine running I installed a
Pertronix ignition. Finally got the thing running and it won't idle or hold
throttle steadily. It barely idles, and when you give it some throttle it
stumbles severely and fluctuates rpm (for instance, with steady throttle it
will swing between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm, and yes, the engine RPM really is
changing to match the tach).
Anyway, I put the points back in and get the same results. When you close
off the butterflies it runs steadily. This would indicate a vacuum leak to
me, but when spraying some starter fluid around the manifold, the carb base
gasket, etc. there's no change in the way the engine runs.
I have the mixture screw to 1 turn out (as per my Haynes Weber manual). Any
ideas?
Thanks in advance.
