Great post. I'll throw in a couple of extra comments. I run
205/60-14s on the street, and will be running (soon!) 205/55-14s
for autocross use.
These fit a 'B only if the rear fenders are flared, slightly. My
flares were done old fashioned baseball bat style.
Yes, it is worth it to have extra wheels. And yes, real "R" tires
make a huge difference!
As far as classes and mods go, also check in to regional only classes.
Here in San Diego we have "Improved Stock" (you did suspension but
no engine) and "Street Mod" (you're driving a production car on
DOT tires -- other than that, it's open).
