It does sound like the AMCO console you describe. And it is in pretty good
shape. Of course the lighter and the speaker do not appear to be working
but that is only a minor problem. I was only planning on removing it
originally. I removed the cheaper style console from my 71BGT fifteen years
ago and kept it in storage. My teenage son has recently put it back in the
car again. I never throw any car stuff away - and it shows too in the garage.
I don't think I have the special edition 67 BGT. I recently replaced the
stock gear knob for a walnut one. The steering wheel is an anomaly - its
not the typical spoked variety but rather a smaller sturdier one with a
nice MG emblem in the center. Its definitely old and may have been an after
market type. Its not wood but still nice a nice steering wheel..
I thought maybe the 67 Special may have had those cool concave mirrors that
mounted on the front of the fenders. A college friend had a well rusted
67BGT with the mirrors and this was back in the early seventies. I'm
thinking seriously of installing the mirrors on mine, replacing the non-MG
mirrors one of the DPOs mounted on the doors. Its the only real out of
place modification the car has had done to it.
