Leave it off. But make sure you use it in the winter when it is dry,
relatively warm weather. If you don't use the brake at all for months at a
time, the cable will stick or the pivot points will rust. You can use a
cable lube and squirt it down the cable once a year, and spray some lithium
grease on the rest of the linkage.
